A Great Example of Specialization

I am having some work done on my old 240Z a car I restored about a decade ago virtually everything on this car has been rebuilt or replaced With one exception the carbs.  The reason that the carbs were not done is that they are dual side draft twin SU carbs, it takes a combination of artist/heart surgeon to set them up properly and almost no mechanic wants to take on the job of rebuilding them.  They are simply a complex pain in the ass!

So my 240 starts running very rough and as everything else is new or rebuilt it comes down to the carbs. The first quote on the carb rebuild is $1500, that is a fair chunk of $$ for a car that when brand new sold for only slightly more that and being rebuilt by a mechanic that has not done one in years.  So I do an bit of home work and find

This company only does carbs like these on obscure old sports cars and does an exceptional job! (for about  1/2 the money!)

What I love about this business is that they have carved out a niche…a valuable niche, they know exactly who their avatar is and they provide a solution that frankly is cheap!! Particularly is you have ever had an incompetent mechanic “set up” the carbs.  In general you pay 3 hours for them to be set up and then 4 hours for them to be fixed by someone who knows.  The bill usually about $700, the same amount as they charge for new carbs and a guarantee that it will take no longer than an hour or so to set the carbs up properly!!

It is a great example of knowing your market, delivering great value and I for one cannot wait to get the new carbs installed and the car running like it did when it left the factory.

I will keep you posted.

My Porsche 356 Restoration

Hey all my new site is coming along well and my restoration of my 1963 Porsche 356 Cabriolet is coming along nicely as well.

Slow but sure, my hope is to have it back home this winter for final assembly.  I think it will be close.

Here is the latest picture.

Believe it or not this is progress!

Catching Up

Cory and Wyatt swimming at the Westin in Los Angeles.  They had a great time at Disneyland, Universal studios while I was taking a course.  We did get to have fun together before and after the course.  ALL GOOD!

I have not written for a LONG time, for several reasons, my domain name has gotten a bit fouled up and I have not been able to fix it properly so for the time being we will live with it the way it is.  Also this summer was very busy, travelling, family and getting settled in the new house.  We LOVE the new house as furniture arrives it feels more and more like home.  There has been so much happening that I am not sure where to start…well here is the list.

Wyatt

  1. Turned 4, great party and what a cool age, he is becoming even more strategic!

  2. Has started preschool and is in love with his preschool teacher Miss Wanda : )  It starts young!

  3. Was the Incredible Hulk for Halloween, which he LOVED, that was too much fun

Cory

  1. Has been busy getting the house in order

  2. Came to LA with me for one of my courses which was great, I don’t like being away from her and Wyatt so much

  3. Humoured my car addiction and came to Pebble Beach and the Monterey Historic races with me, which was an amazing event

  4. Volunteering for Wyatt’s preschool

  5. Plus the millions of details that it takes to keep her crazy husband supported and on track.  Thanks Hon I love and appreciate you!

Jay

  1. Designing and developing content for the Entrepreneurial Freedom program like mad

  2. Had TONS of fun with Cory and Wyatt all summer, Monterey, Los Angeles, Deb and Duane’s farm, Gma and Gpa in Redcliff, Callaway Park, Banff.

  3. My Porsche 356 Convertible is turning into a MUCH bigger project than I had hoped or imagined I will be lucky to get it back for assembly in spring.

  4. I cut grass and did yardwork for the first time since I was a kid and LOVED IT!

  5. We had most of our family at the new house and really enjoyed having them  ; )  A little more space makes a huge difference

  6. Then on top of all that house stuff, house stuff and house stuff all of which is fun and inspiring yet time consuming.  BTW I love having a garage for my cars!

  7. I had several brushes with fame this summer, Nicole Kidman and her husband don’t know his name, Rob Schneider, Bill Phillips and a few others, kind of weird!

Anyway that is the short update about a couple of the most transition filled and amazing months of my life.  I will be back to regular updates till the rest of the year.

Reflections On Moving

I am on a plane to Los Angeles to interview contractors to build the drivers club.  It is a  bittersweet trip, Cory, Wyatt and I have moved into our FIRST family home today, and I will not be there to spend our first night.  It is beautiful and amazing yet a part of me mourns leaving our loft. So much of our life happened in that building.

I am on a plane to Los Angeles to interview contractors to build the drivers club.  http://www.mydriversclub.com It is a bittersweet trip, Cory, Wyatt and I moved into our FIRST family home today and I will not be there to spend our first night.

Our house is beautiful, amazing and everything that I want or dream of in a home, yet at the same time a part of me mourns leaving our loft…so much of our life happened in that building.  We moved in only a couple of days before getting married 14 years ago  (yes Cory and I have a tendency to grow roots, we are NOT movers, so you know we do not take moving lightly).

There are so many highlights of buying that building struggling to renovate it out of pocket, finally getting our loft completed, bringing home Porsche (our Doberman Pinscher), MANY nights in the monster jacuzzi with a bottle of red wine, friends and family over (but not for too long, because the original space was too small), and of course the greatest change in our lives and the real  impetus to move welcoming Wyatt home to us.  I will never forget that first night with our little man, simply the best day of our lives to date, and how is presence changed the energy of the loft into a home.  Our loft was recently described by a friend of ours to a curious fiend of hers “ well 80% of it is set up for kids including indoor swing and ladder”.  At the new place he will get a swing and ladder and much more outside, how novel  ; ).  Completing my book, the amazing revolving door of family and company that came from all over God’s green earth to meet and welcome Wyatt to our family.  Really one of the most beautiful and blessed times of our lives, and I know I can speak for Cory on that point, we have spoken about it often.

Of course there was sadness, worry and loss in the loft as well, our beloved Porsche passing away the very night of Wyatt’s welcoming ceremony.  Financial struggles, the phone call about “the hang man”  if you don’t know that story you really must read my book http://www.reframeyourblame.com family friction, news of illness, passing of grandparents.  The entire complexity and beauty of life itself.  That is what was, or perhaps more accurately put that is “where was”.

Today is about what is, where is, and what is to be.

A fresh start, a new beginning, a new environment to nurture ourselves, our families and friends, a place to consciously nurture our lives, our dreams and our future.

So my loves Cory and Wyatt, even though I am not physically there know that my heart is in our new home, my thoughts are with you both, about us and our future.  We will  have the best summer of our lives thus far at HOME with family and friends.

I miss you both…

VALENTINES DAY

So much has been going on I am not sure where to start.  In short life is great, I sold my Porsche 356 coupe, I am into my 3rd week of a fitness/wellness program called Strength For Life, I am getting ready to launch a new Mortgage Investment Corp., and of course still working on the transition to Personal Best Alberta with Rae Anne, Whew!!

I spent the first 2 weeks of February in Peer Coaching Retreats, what a blast!  It is good to be home however.  Cory and I went to see the Polyjesters again for Valentines, that band ROCKS!  Check them out.

I am experiencing some “sellers remorse” about letting my Porsche 356 go (pictured above).  Kind of odd for a car that I only drove for 4 days in Denver,,, but both Cory and I REALLY liked the odd looking little thing.

Ah well, so many cars to play with, so little time  ; ).

I am totally enthralled with a new fitness book called “Strength for Life” it is written by a friend of mine Shawn Phillips, (Bill Phillips of “Body For Life” fame older brother)  The program has similarities to the BFL program, but is a MUCH more conscious approach, integrating mental focus, meditation, and sustainability.

I am just starting week 3, already I am stronger, feeling better and my energy is WAY up.  If you are interested check out his site:

And if you are interested in hearing more tonight and you are a Personal Best Inner Circle Member, be sure to dial in at 6:20 for our 1 hour call.

Have a great day!

Later this week I will fill you in on one of my new ventures the AJ Mortgage Investment Corporation.
