My MOST Important Month This Year!

frog_waterPillar 2 “I Create MORE Than I Consume” is on.  I for one am super excited about it and while working on myself and my business from the perspective of Pillar 1 “Personal Accountability”  I have gained some insights that have me HIGHLY MOTIVATED!  I am dedicating myself to a conscious creation RESET.  Want to join me?

I have spent the last 2 years developing content, systems and process for our new brand The Creator’s Code.  My output has been stellar in terms of content creation.  BUT I have been out of balance, I have consumed FAR too much time, money, resources in the “Creation” mode and in taking 3 steps back to evaluate, in fact this creation process has actually become more of a CONSUMPTION process.  UGGGG, that feels like a kick to the… to the… lets say solar plexus.

What is fascinating to me is the subtle at least to me way that some of my greatest acts of creation of turned into unconscious act of consumption.

So my question to myself is “How the hell did that happen?”

It feels a bit like the story of the frog and the boiling water. If you toss a frog into boiling water it jumps out and saves it life…makes sense BUT if you put a from into nice and comfortable lukewarm water and slowly but surely turn temperature. One or two degrees at a time the frog remains comfortable…after all it is just a small and subtle change and remains in water until it is boiled to death.

So the truth is I have been sitting comfortable in creation mode, which I love and have let myself slip, a couple of degrees at a time into consumption mode.  In hindsight I see some of the key decisions and framing that lead to this result…but at the time I was oblivious.

It makes me wonder, how many of you currently have a life area, business, relationship, creative project that started as creation but has slipped into consumption? If you are wondering if this is true ask yourself these questions, I know that they would have helped me to recognize when the “HEAT” was being turned up.

  1. Are you in resistance to…
    1. Working on the project
    2. Completion
    3. Engaging and accepting specific types of support
    4. My normal routines
    5. Doing that which will have the GREATEST positive impact
  2. Do you have specific results that are normally clockwork that are suffering?
    1. Self care routines
    2. Financial results
    3. Time with family
  3. Are you managing low levels of negative emotions?
    1. Frustration
    2. Sadness
    3. Confusion
    4. Disappointment
  4. Are you managing incompletes?
    1. Taxes
    2. Correspondence
    3. House cleaning/maintenance
  5. Relationship strain
    1. Not seeing the people you care about most
    2. Not being PRESENT with people you love when you a re with them
    3. Changes in sexual intimacy
    4. Drama with family
    5. Undefined distance

If you said responded yes to 3 or more of the questions above you may have shifted into consumption mode and need a RESET.  When it comes to creating a reset the faster the better and we have collected some fantastic people, tools and experiences to get you back on track THIS MONTH.

One of the most powerful experiences that we offer at The Creator’s Code is “The Accountability Intensive” weekend which is the experiential version of my bestselling book “Reframe Your Blame” it is happening this weekend in Edmonton. Email lance@creatorscode.com to secure your seat.

Conscious Creation, here we come.

My Response to a Request for Support

I am just learning my way around linked in, and i am enjoying the groups far more than I would have thought.  Making real connections with real people and I look forward to contributing in far greater ways.

I thought I would share a brief exchange about building a coaching business.

This is a great example of if you are willing to give you can create a tribe and following easily!

RACHEL  • Jay, I wrote you a long message, but then realized that perhaps I should just go ahead and lay it all out here for the good of others who are in the same place.

So here’s what I sent you. A private reply to any of this is great, as is a public exchange.

I’ve spent a little time on your website, and I think I’m getting a better idea of how it is you generate the kind of revenue you do. It seems like you’re operating on a large scale–lots of products, programs, webinars, services…how does one person do so much?

I would absolutely LOVE to do public speaking, workshops, seminars…and I know the importance of having a product to sell, but feel like I barely have time to write decent articles. But I’m a bit of a purest and don’t want to outsource things like blog entries and articles.

I network a lot, have a website/use AdWords/FB and twitter, and I have a profile on one referral network….it has become clear to me in a VERY short period of time that this is not my ticket to a thriving practice.

I’m less than 60 days into my own business, and I have one client. Some fellow entrepreneurs are impressed with me, but it’s not enough for me on any level–financially, professionally, emotionally. It seems unfathomable to me that I could go from one client to making six figures in 6 months…I would be thrilled to make $30K inside a year. I do NOT believe in thinking small, but I think I am acting small.

I’m looking forward to what you will share in the forum or with me personally (when your schedule clears a bit, of course). I know that none of us works for free, so while I don’t expect you to give me all your secrets for nothing, I would be so grateful for a hint, a clue, a nudge in the right direction!

Jay Fiset • Part 1

Hey Rachel, I finally have a bit of space to respond, I am happy to help as A) I have been there and B) there are far too many talented and capable coaches out there struggling.

The topic of business building is huge and will take a few posts to do any sort of justice to but here goes with the headlines.

1) Design a business MODEL that works, I truly believe that most coaches are doomed to fail (or at least substantial struggle) by not designing a real business model. Getting some training/certification and printing cards and getting a website is NOT a business model.

No one would dream of building a house without hiring an architect or draftsman to design and draw what will be built, based on how it will be used, who and how many people will live there and what they want their relationship to their environment to be.

Yet every month all over the world new coaches are certified and sent into the world to “print their cards and get their website up and running” it is almost like a ritual to prepare the virgin for sacrifice at the alter. Ok I am getting a bit mellow dramatic but it is not far off the mark. The % of success in this business is not great considering all of the gifted talented and caring people that are attracted to it.

BTW Rachel, the fact that you are new to this can be a significant advantage, you only have one client you have time to create a model that works for you. One of the big issues is that many people become marginally successful with a full one on one practice and then do not have the time to actually build a business they are too busy servicing clients and hitting their head on the ceiling of to make more $$ I must work more hours and there is no time for business building they are just stuck in delivery using a model that traps and limits them.

So on to what to do about this I firmly believe that investing on the development and perfecting (as much as possible LOL) a business model is the most significant job of any entrepreneur so lets start there.

The 6 basic business model elements are as follows:
1) Lead Generation: The MOST COMPLEX and the area that seems most ignored or at least poorly strategized by most coaches.
2) Conversion: You must have a system for filtering the right clients, creating TRUST and INTIMACY, this is one of the major differences is in our business exists “traditional marketing” does not address trust and intimacy to the degree necessary to make conversion easy.
3) Delivery: This is the easiest part of the model, so ouch so that most coaches get caught here…it is a trap, BEWARE!!!
4) Continuity: Your clients need long term support and you need consistent income, so what will your long term offering be that provides both? You work far to hard and long to create a client put them on something consistent. Think memberships, consumables, ongoing education.

Jay Fiset • Part 2

* Ladder of ascension: You MUST have different product offerings at different price points from low $$ digital products to high end premium one on one coaching, and do not space the rungs on the ladder to far apart. over and over I see people trying to jump from a free downloadable ebook to a $2500 coaching program. It can work, but it will be easier if there was a closer rung like a $497 intro.

* Viral coefficient: While this is #6 it is actually a process that must be embedded into every single other element of your model and if you can do it well, you will have a business machine that literally generates leads for you. If you can get to 1.4 VC your business will grow exponentially!! This means that for every client you acquire they deliver to you1.4 more people. It is doable but MUST be designed into your model.

These elements must be considered within the context of these 2 vital filters

* How much do I want to earn/create/contribute

* How much do I want to work

When a business model is structured properly, you can choose how many clients at what price point and press the gas peddle of your business to create clients and CASH!

This is a BRIEF outline but I hope it helps. I wrote this for Rachel, but I am open to any feedback, comments and questions from anyone.

I am off to Vegas for a couple of speaking engagements.

I will respond as soon as I am able.

RACHEL • Wow…this is a lot of priceless information. My wheels are turning at full speed. It makes perfect sense, and especially having products at different price points–no doubt that makes conversion easier. I’m woefully behind on all six of these aspects of the business plan. Suddenly my business plan (albeit more comprehensive than business cards and a website) seems like something scratched on a cocktail napkin! Thank you for sharing your knowledge about how to get started right…and you are absolutely right about my having an opportunity to get things in place before I get bogged down by too many clients at too low a fee. You really went the extra mile in sharing this kind of information, and I am very grateful.

Good luck in Vegas. 🙂

The Power of a Change of Pace, Inspiration 2020

The power of a change of pace.

Over the past year I have been spending a fair amount of time on the road and I am always amazed at how a simple change of pace can make a monumental difference in the way that I think and how I view both opportunities and difficulties in my life and business.

I have come to appreciate even more than ever before how a different location, away from the anchors and triggers of my day to day life and business can make such a monumental difference.

So here we are at the beginning of the 4th quarter, and if you are like many of my clients, to accomplish your 2011 goals it is going to take an outstanding 4th quarter to meet or exceed those goals.  I have a suggestion, in fact a suggestion with a huge incentive! It is this, join me in Vegas THIS WEEKEND, yes I know that it is Thanksgiving, but lets be clear a trip and a change of pace may be generate a whole lot more gratitude than another family dinner, or copy me and  fly home late Sunday night so you can do Thanksgiving dinner on Monday : ) get the best of both worlds!

This weekend (Oct 7 – 9, 2011) a very cool and amazing event called Inspiration 2020 is being organized by my friend Bill Walsh in Las Vegas.  I am one of the guest speakers and there is an outstanding line up of people including a billionaire (yes with a B!)  I am inviting you to come and experience not just a change of pace, but a RESET to tackle Q4 with the focus and energy it requires. Inspiration 2020 is not just some dry business event it is MUCH more than that, what I love about Bill’s events is that he ALWAYS has fun, pool parties, private club access, great food, it is always done RIGHT!

The event is aimed at life and business success, I was honored to speak at the last one in Orlando, which was an incredible collection of people many of whom I will have life long relationships with both business and personal. If you are looking to do business with the RIGHT group of people (you know what I mean) those that are connected, get who you are and what you do, you can make life long connections as well.

Now here is the best part you can attend for as little as $197 for the entire conference evening parties and networking but if you go VIP (only $497) that includes bringing a friend, plus special seating, access to media suite, special parties EVERYTHING!!

To make it even more attractive, I will personally coach anyone who joins me in Vegas for 1 hour, an additional value of $5oo.

So take the plunge, come have fun, learn and set up your final quarter of 2011 in a way that far exceeds all the goals you set!

Click this link to join me and have a blast!  Yes I AM READY!

See you at “Paris” Las Vegas this weekend!

Synchronicity, Opportunity and Signs from Above

Clue From Above

It has been a long time since I have written and much has happened in the past month or so. I will do my best to outline a few of the highlights. First of all I had my first platform presentation in Orlando at Bill Walsh’s event Inspiration 2020 which I will speak at again in October in Las Vegas.  This was a great event and thanks to Bill for putting it on and having me there, I shared the stage with a bunch of fascinating people including John Asaraf from The Secret, Ted Thomas, Ron Legrand and  Marco Kozlowski a fascinating real estate expert who we are bringing to Alberta early August be sure you catch Marco at these Inner Circle Mastery Evenings.

For perspective when I got on the plane it was freezing in Calgary and it was BEAUTIFUL in Orlando! At this event I am in the conference from 9 am  – 10 pm each morning passing this beautiful pool and water slide each morning and I gaze longingly at the pool and I promised myself that I would  spend at least some time by the pool.  That said I was so fascinated by the people who were presenting I could not tear myself away from the event.

During this time  meet Roger Salam who runs The Winners Circle TWC and I connected and he was working me (I mean seriously working me, everywhere I turned there he was saying “are you coming to the mastermind?”  it was actually pretty funny) to stay in Florida longer and attend one of his masterminds.  I was totally interested and fascinated as Colin and I spent 2 years running similar groups together, but I was REALLY missing Cory and the kids, so I was torn.  Finally I decide that I will simply take a half hour by the pool, sit in the sun have a nice cold beer and consider what I should do.

So there I sit enjoying the sun my brain literally overflowing from the amazing content of a multitude of speakers, wondering if I should just get my but home or should I stay to experience this mastermind.  It is clear to me that the future of Personal Best is outside of Alberta/Western Canada…it is clear to me that I will take a completely different approach to building the organization than I did in the past, and it is clear to me that there are more opportunities than I would be able to pursue in 10 lifetimes.  As I have these realizations I look up into the sky and there is skywriter just finishing the word “TRUST”.  A huge smile crosses my face and I think what a perfect sign for me at this moment in time.  I go back to drinking my beer, I have a short visit with a couple of fellow attendees by the pool and am content to just “BE” for awhile.  I prepare to leave the pool and make my final decision about staying for the mastermind when I look to the sky and the plane is just finishing the letter “J”!!

The picture above is an untouched sign from above that said “J TRUST” the trust word is starting to get blown around but when it was originally finished is was as clear as the letter J.

Well clearly I listened to the sign and I stayed for The Winners Circle Mastermind which was outstanding and I met some fantastic people. I did tease Roger that hiring a skywriter is going a little far to acquire a new client, but I did appreciate the nudge. I will share my experience of the TWC mastermind in a future entry it too was full of fascinating synchronicity.

My questions for you are:

What are the signs around you that are nudging you?

Are you paying attention to the synchronicity of the universe?

What do the signs actually mean?

What must you take action on today?

Remember:

There is no such thing as chance; and what seem to us merest accident springs from the deepest source of destiny.
Friedrich Schiller (1759 – 1805)

Until next time, Jay
