Thou Shall Not Workâ€¦For Someone Else

I have been toying around with a book that I think is fun and squarely takes aim at the old industrial revolution beliefs of go to school, get a job, save for retirement and all will be well.

Thou Shall Not Work…For Someone Else, The 10 Commandments of Entrepreneurship.Â I am going to start blogging my thoughts and notes for the book.Â Please feel free to comment, share your point of view and let me know how you make out â€œLiving the commandmentsâ€Â ; )

The first draft of the 10 Commandments of Entrepreneurship

1) Thou shall create value

2) Thou shall be sustainable in all endeavours

3) Thou shall build to scale

4) Thou shall become addicted to education

5) Thou shall release your limiting beliefs

6) Thou shall give, you will become a new breed of Philanthropreneur

7) Thou shall not create false economies

8) Thou shall create more than you consume

9) Thou shall focus exclusively on that which only YOU can do

10) What do you think it should be???

I have about 5 others that are on my list but I would love to hear what the rest of you think.Â What do you think should be one of the Commandments of Entrepreneurship?

Social Media and Your Business

Wyattâ€™s 4 year old pictures, I cannot get over how fast he is growing.

The other day he comes into my office hand on his hip and says â€œDaddy, do I have to have a nap today?â€ I say yes, Wyatt, â€œWell I think it should be my personal choice, and I choose no nap!â€

I am SO happy we started teaching him about choice so young!Â ; )

Last weekend in the Entrepreneurs Bootcamp I was making a point about using Facebook and a few of the attendees literally rolled their eyes.

Another participant says â€œI know what you mean, but you must think of it as a business toolâ€

I must say my internal response was nothing short of â€œDuh!â€Â Upon reflection however I can see how my grounding and view of Facebook and others view can be quite different!

I choose to get on Facebook for the purpose of communicating with my tribe, developing and reinforcing business relationships.
I clearly choose to ignore the games, the mafia, the farms and the other time wasters (yes I own my judgment).
My life and business are very clearly highly integrated, I know that is not the case for most people who have a job.

The point of this post is simply this, if you have a business you really should be on Facebook (and other social media for that matter).Â It is NOT the way of the future it is the way it is NOW!

SIDEBAR:Â Here is the wild and entertaining reality, this just happened literally as I was writing this blog.Â I get this email via Facebook.

Off To Boulder

I just finished the Financial Freedom Weekend in Edmonton, we had a sold out room, and a great group of people, many of whom are on their way to becoming entrepreneurs.Â Cory and Wyatt came up and spent the weekend so we could still see each other around the course times which I soooo appreciate!

It is a little after 5am I am in the Edmonton airport on my way to Boulder for one of the VITA retreats, a little tuckered but looking forward to the trip.Â I will stop in to see how the shop(s) are progressing on my old Porsche 356.Â I have great hopes that we are actually well into the reconstruction process.Â I have seen some pics but it seems as though it is going VERY slowly and I know that they have been waiting for the hand made nose panel and front fenders from Trevorâ€™s Hammer works, which if I am lucky will actually be there by the time I go to check it out!

What I am thinking about is one of the Pillars of our new 90 day Entrepreneurial Freedom Program, and that is a question that was asked many times in the Financial Freedom Weekend, â€œHow do I stop thinking like an employee and start thinking like an entrepreneur?â€

My first reaction to that is stop asking the question of someone else, and ask the question of yourself!Â That being said one of the great challenges of many entrepreneurs is that they donâ€™t ask for enough support…always trying to do it on their own.Â So I thought that I would spend some time framing out some of the largest differences in thinking that I perceive.

Catching Up

Cory and Wyatt swimming at the Westin in Los Angeles.Â They had a great time at Disneyland, Universal studios while I was taking a course.Â We did get to have fun together before and after the course.Â ALL GOOD!

I have not written for a LONG time, for several reasons, my domain name has gotten a bit fouled up and I have not been able to fix it properly so for the time being we will live with it the way it is.Â Also this summer was very busy, travelling, family and getting settled in the new house.Â We LOVE the new house as furniture arrives it feels more and more like home.Â There has been so much happening that I am not sure where to start…well here is the list.

Wyatt

Turned 4, great party and what a cool age, he is becoming even more strategic!
Has started preschool and is in love with his preschool teacher Miss Wanda : )Â It starts young!
Was the Incredible Hulk for Halloween, which he LOVED, that was too much fun

Cory

Has been busy getting the house in order
Came to LA with me for one of my courses which was great, I donâ€™t like being away from her and Wyatt so much
Humoured my car addiction and came to Pebble Beach and the Monterey Historic races with me, which was an amazing event
Volunteering for Wyattâ€™s preschool
Plus the millions of details that it takes to keep her crazy husband supported and on track.Â Thanks Hon I love and appreciate you!

Designing and developing content for the Entrepreneurial Freedom program like mad
Had TONS of fun with Cory and Wyatt all summer, Monterey, Los Angeles, Deb and Duaneâ€™s farm, Gma and Gpa in Redcliff, Callaway Park, Banff.
My Porsche 356 Convertible is turning into a MUCH bigger project than I had hoped or imagined I will be lucky to get it back for assembly in spring.
I cut grass and did yardwork for the first time since I was a kid and LOVED IT!
We had most of our family at the new house and really enjoyed having themÂ ; )Â A little more space makes a huge difference
Then on top of all that house stuff, house stuff and house stuff all of which is fun and inspiring yet time consuming.Â BTW I love having a garage for my cars!
I had several brushes with fame this summer, Nicole Kidman and her husband donâ€™t know his name, Rob Schneider, Bill Phillips and a few others, kind of weird!

Anyway that is the short update about a couple of the most transition filled and amazing months of my life.Â I will be back to regular updates till the rest of the year.
